Man With Migraines More Predisposed To Be Depressed

People suffering from headache, specifically migraines, are much more predisposed to suffer from depression, feel worn-out, and have a host of other hard physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical research involved 1040 people who buy seroquel at headache clinics in six countries. Of the woman tested, 661 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 776 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were diagnosed with migraines.

The study found patient with chronic headache were four times more predisposed than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among patient diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Manic Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms would stir up or be a manifestation of major Manic Depression in women with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Major Depression could heighten pain perception,” said clinical investigation author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Manic Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical trial are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Major Depression would be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Atypical Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Atypical Depression complicates headache treatment and can rouse poorer sequels for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The medical investigation was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American patient are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12.000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better woman care through instruction and clinical research. A neurologist is a physician with specialized training in diagnosing, curing and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and multiple sclerosis.
